Julia's son Basil appears on the single version, speaking a verse especially written for a child:

'...if only to flee 'neath the green web cross wire mesh fence and enter into the masquerade'.

It was quite a tongue-twister for him and took a few takes.

The single version of Masquerade was included on the last playlist compiled by the late John Peel for his show on BBC Radio One :)
